Waikato Area Update

With Winter now gone and spring in the air the its time to get the cars back out again and enjoy the nice fine weather again. We are only just ticking along as I said we were going to do earlier in the year, but we are starting to pick the pace up now. Doug and Judy are organizing the xmas function which is going to be held on Saturday 28th November, it is going to be an all day event with a full report in the next mag.

I hope to have a few cars for the BOP trip to the Okoroire hotel for lunch on Saturday 26th September, for all those interested in this cruise can you please contact me or let Chris and Rachel know.

We were going to have a trip up North next Month but due to a few of the members who want to go being unavailable it looks like I will have to re-schedule to another date.

Now for last weekend in Taupo, not much can be said other than all that turned up had a great time. The accommodation at Cathy and Gregs motel was tops and I must thank them on behalf of all that were there for their hospitality and the very good discount they gave us, and also a very yummy tea on Saturday night. I decided to enter my car in the sprints at the last minute and I am glad I did as the track was nice and wet (as usual for Taupo) and I just went out there and gave the car one good workout. As a result I some how managed to pick up 3rd place in D class behind two other Waikato members Jeff and Craig. As the day turned to night I was given plenty of advise from many of the other sprinters from North and South and also some of the locals what I should do next time, but when I woke up on Sunday morning I forgot what most of them said so I will have to have another go at the next meeting.

See you all at our next meeting at Ebbett Holden 7.30Pm on Thurday 8th October and Tim is bring along a guest speaker.

Finally how can anyone not want to be a member of our club that owns a HSV and miss out on a weekend that we have just had in taupo.

Bay of Plenty Area Update

Hi All,

Unfortunately Rachael & I have decided to stand down as the Area Co-Ordinators for the Bay Of Plenty region, and will be concentrating solely on the Hawkes Bay Area.

Thanks to those who supported us during the last few months, we hope to see the members up here at the Nationals in Taupo next year. charity drive in Hawkes Bay, we are waiting on details for this also so if you can help with this also please let me know. Let's not let Ford be the only display here.

Cheers & Safe Driving!
Chris & Rachael

Hawkes Bay Area Update

Hi All,

We had a good cruise out to the Chook & Filly cafe on Sunday 15th November, with a total of 8 cars in the end. It was good to have new members Andrew & Jess Richards along with their children, hope we didn't scare you away & you enjoyed yourselves.

With not a lot of choice around Hawkes Bay for country roads that are a bit wider to ensure a comfortable cruise, we found a good loop road and a couple of big straights, so all in all it was a great drive.

Decembers Christmas party date is announced, it is Sunday the 13th and will finish with a Christmas Roast Dinner at the Gin Trap Napier. We have included a registration form for numbers for the caterers so please don't leave it till the last minute. This is a Christmas function so bring the kid's, it's going to be a great day! All areas welcome to come along.

The menu is a full on Christmas Roast, with Ham, Beef & Chicken, potatoes and salads- both hot & cold, rolls and all trimmings. There's fries & chicken nibbles for the kids also. Dessert is Pavlova & Cheesecake. All this for only $20 per person! The Gin Trap has really given us a great deal here so come along!!

SummerJam details have been confirmed, please see the attached registration form - this is also shaping up to be a great weekend so get on board and come along!! With an awesome tour lined up and a full on BBQ dinner in the grounds of the brewery, of course with a few ales & wines, we can guarantee a good time! With a chauffeur driven bus from the motel complex to the brewery, there are no drink/drive worries, and I'm sure we'll have some fun lined up back at the motel once we get back. Obviously the more people we get, the cheaper the bus deal is going to be- if we get 40 people, it's going to be about $10-12 per head- that's pretty cheap we reckon.

Drive safe.

Chris & Rachael

Taupo Area Update

A big hello from Cathy & I and the great lake of Taupo.

Towards the end of October HSV Club members supplied two cars for a wedding here in Taupo. Gary Merwood had his Grange looking a million dollars as the bridal car, and Chris from Napier had his Clubsport looking as if it had just come out of the showroom. Photos were taken of the two cars outside our apartments. They looked great. Thank you to Gary & Chris for supplying their cars.

Taupo's Cruising for a Cause, well that's another story. As far as the HSV Club was concerned, it was an absolute flop! All local members were advised twice by email and not one phone call was received saying they were going to attend. Nobody turned up at our apartments on the Saturday morning, the 31st October. This I must say was very disappointing , and putting it mildly I was pissed off. If members want to remain members of an elite club like the NZ HSV Owners Club I expect them to take pride in their cars, show them off, display them and take part in organised activities. If an activity is coming up and you are attending, or unable to attend, all it takes is a phone call.

By the time you read this the Supercheap Auto Powercruise will be over. Special thanks to VP Peter and his lovely wife Donna for bringing the tent and flags down from Auckland for our site at the Powercruise. I will do a report on this in the next bulletin. Remember, this is the first Powercruise of nine to be held in NZ. If you miss this year there is always next year. There are approx. 250 vehicles registered at this stage.

This bulletin doesn't reach you until early December, so Cathy & I would like to wish everybody a Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year.

Safe driving and take care.

Wellington Area Update

Hi everyone from the bottom of the North Island, hope you're all starting to enjoy those longer days, summer will be upon us before we realise.

We have had a couple of events going on down here since the update last month yes that's right two updates in two successive months, wonders will never cease eh.

We went on a cruise up to the Tui Factory on 23rd August, we have quite a few new members that hadn't been before and its always a good cruise up there, I'm sure that we get a good number of cars for that run as the guys are fooled into thinking that the tour through the factory is actually given by some of the Tui girls themselves, you men are SOOOOOO gullible.

The day dawned your typical sunny and windless Wellington day, perfect weather for cruising. We had a fun drive over the Rimutakas (maybe a bit too much fun for some members who we won't name individually) let's just say that spare undergarments wouldn't have gone a miss for a couple of members.

Got to the Tui Factory around 12pm and sat down to a really nice BBQ lunch whilst sitting outside enjoying the Mangatinoka sun, we then went on the tour, sounds like they are making the outside area into the perfect mans haven as they are building a golfing green etc, don't actually remember anything being done for the ladies but then what is it they say “It's a mans world” and up there it surely is.

On 5th September (another perfect Wellington day) we had a dyno day out at Speedtech Motorsport in Seaview, eight members put their cars to the test, and it was interesting to say the least as to what our cars can actually achieve. Speedtech is owned by Andre Simon who has a reputation as the builder, owner and driver of the fastest Mitsubishi Evo “Docile” in the world – yes the world! But the good news is he's a V8 man too, having worked in the USA building funny cars and door slammers. Speedtech have the latest version of the Dynapack chassis dyno, and have the VCM suite software (same as Paul Manuell Racing) to reflash our HSV ECUs. They are fully equipped to do exhaust, turbo and supercharger installs on HSVs too, and have a team of very skilled and passionate technicians working in their workshop (and showroom).

Top power output of the cars tested on the day was 304 rwkw on a manual LS2 VE GTS, naturally aspirated with only external intake and exhaust mods – nice one, Graham. There's no sweeter sound, even to us girls , than an HSV pulling 6000+ revs in a closed space...rumour has it that one car (which will remain anonymous, except to says that it's an SV300) loved having its C4B revved so much that now every time its owner takes it out it will be wanting her (oops, just gave the game away) to do 6000+ revs all the time!! Boy, we know how to go hard in Wellington

Well that's all from us down here until next time

President's Report

Hi there

Hi there,

Welcome to the final club magazine for 2009. As I write this I am back in the Middle East.

In the past month I had a total of nine days at home, for whatever bizarre coincidental reason one of the biggest industries my company manufacturers for has all of its industry workshop and trade shows in 4 weeks of each other across Christchurch, Townsville, Perth, Melbourne and now Abu Dhabi and Dubai and the Gold Coast trip for the club members as well! More about that in the magazine.

I was home long enough though for the launch of the E2 at Schofields for the Auckland club night. With close to eighty people attending made up of a mix of club members and HSV customers of Schofields, it was one of the best club nights I been too. Not just because we signed up 11 new members that night, but also we had a great range of speakers including Andrew Lamb from HSV to talk about the new car, Andy Booth to talk about the new V8 season, Paul Manuell to talk about what enhancements he can do to an HSV and Champion Drift driver to talk about the Wildcard stunt utes. In addition, the NZ HSV Owners Club was awarded by Nigel Karl founder of Kids In Cars Charity with a certificate to recognise the club contribution to Kids In Cars charity and our participation at Bathurst In the Park at Pukekohe. This has been through the efforts of Peter Kerr to make this happen, well done Pete. I would like to thank Schofields for all their effort to put on a great evening and for the giveaway prizes on the night.

The revised club rules were passed and seconded at the Auckland club meeting as a carryover from the Special Meeting held prior to the October club meeting which could not be passed due to a lack of members coming along to the Special Meeting. This now means that these admin issues the Committee inherited have now been resolved and would like to acknowledge Annete LeGros for the hundreds of hours she spent pouring over this to make sure that these were done right and to Paul Gallagher for giving up his time to ensure we followed correct legal due process.

The new and long awaited website will be up and running in the New Year, I have seen a coupole o the screens, looks nicely refreshed and will be easy to use. As I have written out before, this means that we are going to be able to have each Area Coordinator update with the local events and pictures up on the site without the programming cost the club currently incurs.

I hope to be home more of December and look forward to trying to get to as many of the Christmas parties as possible around the areas.

All the best to you and you families for the festive season and for 2010.

Cheers

Vice President

Hi everyone,

Well spring is upon us and the Auckland area instead of having its usual meeting had a cruise instead to Gulf Harbour Marina just north of Auckland on the Whangaparaoa peninsular, led by Bob and Melissa Nightingale some 20 HSV’s cruised to a bar to have a meal and a tipple or two.

It was great to see not only the amount of cars but also some members who hadn't been at a club event for a while and the general opinion of those who attended that we should do this more often.

So if you have a favorite place we can visit, and with daylight saving in 2 weeks, drop a line to the committee to see what we can arrange.

The weekend of the 11th and 12th of Sept was the budget sprint at Taupo, a big thank you to Capt Joe, Adrienne and Lew,Bob and Melissa for an awesome event that was well organized and well run despite the weather gods trying to dampen the day. Melissa had the grids turned around in 8 minutes! No mean feat, which meant 4 races for each grid of 4 laps each.

It was good to see some our newer members sprinting and they went around at their pace with no pressure , so well done to all sprinters with the comment from the Motorsport NZ official that he was pleasantly surprised that NO intervention vehicle was required despite the wet conditions.

We would like to get feedback from those who attended if the would be interested in having this sprint again next year. Finally on the Taupo sprint a big thanks to Greg and Cathy Laugesen for their hospitality to all who stayed with them, well done.

The Kids in Cars event being held on Sunday 11th October and yes I know that's Bathurst. It is a good opportunity to help fundraise for Kidz First Hospital and also if you desire take your car onto the track and have a lot of fun or polish up your HSV and put in the show and shine . The club will have the easi-up tent and the bbq for club members to use, so bring along the family some thing to eat and have a fun day. Oh, in case you are wondering LG are providing 5 large screen TV's to watch the great race….see you there! For further info go to www.kic.org.nz

It was great to see Holden on top of the podium for the L&H 500 at Phillip Island a great way to celebrate Holden's 40 years in Aussie motorsport, I'm sure there was may a Holden fan saying not that **@#$ 888 team again, then the tyre gods smiled on us for a change and well the rest his history ,a great finish by Garth Tander!

Cheers

Captains Log

I'm sure that as we run into December that you all have of course completed you Christmas shopping and are now just sitting back relaxing and attending all those pre Christmas function – yeah right.

I can't believe that this is the last magazine for the year; I'm not sure where the year got to.

You would have seen an email highlighting what events are happening up to the Nationals and I must admit I was a little surprised that there is so much on and I hope you try can get to an event at some point.

I was lucky enough to be in the first official MSNZ sanctioned race meeting at Hampton Downs on Sunday the 15th Nov; highlighted with the knowledge that I was also in the first race of that meeting. The circuit is truly something else, the likes of which just haven't existed in this country up until now. It is hard to picture the climbs and drops when hearing about it, one corner in particular has something like a 12m drop in height from its entry point to its exit; just a fantastic circuit and the venue as a whole will be out of this world when complete.

Yes we are holding a sprint/race event at Hampton Downs on the 31st January 2010. You would have seen an email asking for an indication of entrants which I hope you've responded to. This is not a cheap event to put on; the budget is in the region of $8,000. To help alleviate the costs we are partnering with the Commodore Car Club and are also looking to hold a full race meeting in between the sprint session – this is an event not to be missed.

I hope that you and your families have a Merry Christmas and safe and enjoyable New Year. Drive sober, drive safe.

Cheers

CPT JOE
